It's Not Your Daddy's Driving Range

Encorepreneur! is taking its own advice and thinking outside the box in October. Instead of having a speaker, we will enjoy an extended time for networking and the opportunity to hit a few golf balls, sit and watch those who do, or take a tour of Richmond’s newest “eatertainment” center.

Our October host is Drive Shaft, the first of two golf/entertainment venues that will open in Richmond this year. Drive Shaft and other industry players recognized that there is limited growth in the traditional golf market. But they believe that consumers who are not traditional golfers – particularly millennials - would be attracted to golf-themed "social enterntainment."

The result is a race to open golf entertainment complexes that include restaurants, meeting rooms, event space, themed parties, and lots of adult beverages alongside technology supplemented driving ranges that allow simulated matches on great courses and other games. .

Drive Shack’s CEO, Sarah Watterson, told Golf Week, “we saw the opportunity to take some of the best aspects of golf – the food and beverage, the camaraderie, the good feeling of whacking a golf ball – and pull them off the course and put them into another venue.”
